View Merchandise Management Student Portfolios

The merchandise management concentration prepares students to employ skills related to business principles, theories, and practices that exist in today’s domestic and global marketplace. Students are introduced to integrated brand promotions, management and organizational behavior, manufacturing and product development, trend forecasting, human resources, public relations, accounting, and business law while also incorporating a sense of aesthetic awareness and execution in many, if not all, of the works produced.  Students will be able to utilize skills relevant to real world applications in managerial leadership, e-retailing, global business, diversity in the workplace, and entrepreneurship.  The development of a variety of diverse skills including critical thinking, professional procedures and practices, and communication skills comprised of verbal, written, and visual formats will also empower students to be placed in retail, wholesale, and allied field positions upon entering the workforce.

Upon completion of the merchandise management concentration, students will have the skill sets to:  (1) secure employment opportunities within a merchandise management or related field; (2) utilize professional verbal, written, and interpersonal formats while communicating with appropriate aesthetic principles within the business environment; and (3) make a significant contribution to their industry and community by supporting peers and juniors in a mentoring role.
